Construction Safety Specialist – Battery Plant - 632922

Marshall, MI

Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Construction Safety Specialist to lead and manage the safety program for Michigan-based construction projects, with a specific focus on battery plant construction. The ideal candidate will have cradle-to-grave construction experience , a solid understanding of safety protocols, and strong leadership abilities to promote a culture of safety excellence. Certifications such as CHST or other relevant safety certifications would be beneficial, with experience in battery plant construction providing a competitive edge.

Job Summary:

As the Construction Safety Specialist, you will oversee all aspects of safety management, compliance, and risk mitigation on-site, ensuring that safety protocols are rigorously followed throughout the project lifecycle. You will work closely with construction teams to identify hazards, implement effective safety practices, and ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations. Your role will be essential in maintaining a safe working environment on the construction site, from initial planning through project completion.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safety Inspections and Audits:
  • Conduct regular site inspections and safety audits to proactively identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate those risks. Ensure all safety concerns are addressed promptly and effectively.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and other relevant federal, state, and local safety laws and guidelines. Stay updated on changes in safety regulations to ensure continuous compliance.
  • Training and Education:
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for workers, supervisors, and managers. Training topics will include fall protection, PPE, equipment safety, excavation safety, Energy Isolation Procedures (LOTO), and emergency response procedures.
  • Accident and Incident Investigation:
  • Lead investigations into workplace accidents and near-misses, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
  • Risk Management:
  • Assist in identifying potential safety risks associated with construction activities and advise teams on safe work practices, hazard controls, and emergency response plans.
  • Safety Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, training, incident reports, and safety meetings. Prepare and present reports to management on safety performance and compliance status.
  • PPE and Equipment Safety:
  • Ensure proper safety equipment and PPE are provided, used correctly, and maintained across all construction activities. Monitor and assess equipment condition to prevent malfunctions or safety hazards.
  • Safety Meetings and Communication:
  • Lead regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and safety briefings to promote safety awareness among workers. Act as a liaison between site management and workers on safety concerns.
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay informed on industry best practices and safety innovations. Recommend and implement safety improvements to enhance overall safety performance on construction projects.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety , Construction Management , Environmental Health , or a related field (preferred).
  • CHST or other relevant safety certifications are highly desirable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in construction environments with familiarity of construction activities, tools, and machinery.
  • Experience in battery plant construction is a significant advantage.

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
  • Familiarity with construction hazards such as heavy equipment, electrical, excavation, fall protection, and scaffold safety.
  • Knowledge of risk assessments, emergency response planning, and injury prevention strategies.

Skills:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey safety instructions and conduct training.
  • Ability to perform detailed safety audits and investigations.
  • Proficiency in safety management software and the Microsoft Office Suite .
