Location: San Mateo, CA Type: Internship (On-site) Company Description Waterline is pioneering affordable and sustainable desalination technology to provide clean water to farms, data centers, reservoirs, and communities. We're leveraging groundbreaking electrical technologies to address global water scarcity, aiming to revolutionize water infrastructure and augment stressed aquifers with seawater worldwide. Role Description We're seeking a curious and innovative engineering intern passionate about building impactful hardware to join our multidisciplinary team. You will collaborate closely with our engineers to design, prototype, and test next-generation desalination technologies. Depending on your interests and strengths, your projects could focus on mechanical design, materials chemistry, fluid mechanics, or electrochemical systems. Responsibilities: Design, prototype, assemble, and test hardware components for our desalination system. Conduct experiments, collect data, and perform analysis to improve system performance. Work with us to create our first field-scale prototypes. Work on cell mechanical design and/or or material characterization (depending on focus area). Collaborate closely with team members to integrate and optimize hardware components. Present findings and provide recommendations based on experimental results. Required: Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related engineering discipline. Demonstrated experience prototyping or building projects independently or as part of a project team or lab Ability to approach problems using first-principles thinking. Excellent problem-solving and clear communication skills. Preferred Experience: Understanding of fluid mechanics principles. Preferably completed coursework covering pipe flows with viscous effects. Chemistry or materials science knowledge, especially regarding lattice strain, electrode composites, or electrochemical systems. Experience with electrical circuits, especially unconventional capacitors or battery technologies. Ability to practically apply concepts from statics and solid mechanics  Practical experience working in aqueous environments or labs involving water-based systems is a plus.  We do not expect candidates to have every listed experience.
