POSITION SUMMARY

The Head of Insurance will be responsible for leading, building, and scaling our subsidiary dedicated to providing top-tier, cost-effective health insurance solutions for small and mid-sized businesses. This role requires an entrepreneurial leader with deep insurance industry expertise, strong business development skills, and the ability to optimize operations while driving market expansion. The ideal candidate will develop strategic partnerships, grow the client base, and manage all aspects of the insurance business, ensuring that our program becomes the go-to provider for businesses looking for better coverage, premium benefits, and lower costs.

OBJECTIVES:

  • Develop and execute a growth strategy to establish us as a market leader in small and mid-sized business health insurance.
  • Partner with carriers, underwriters, and brokers to provide top-tier, cost-effective insurance products tailored to business owners.
  • Oversee and optimize the acquisition, renewal, and compliance of General Health, Life, and Disability licenses to support business growth and regulatory adherence.
  • Create and manage a scalable pipeline to grow customer base, ensuring consistent revenue growth.
  • Work with insurers, third-party administrators, and benefits providers to negotiate better rates and coverage options for clients.
  • Develop relationships with commercial lenders, wealth advisors, and industry leaders to expand distribution and drive referrals.
  • Work closely with business owners and executives to structure compelling insurance solutions that drive long-term retention.
  • Ensure businesses meet Certificates of Insurance (COI) requirements, errors & omissions (E&O) policies, and other compliance standards.
  • Oversee and optimize policy administration, claims management, underwriting coordination, and back-office functions to improve efficiency.
  • Develop strategies to position us as the #1 choice for small business insurance, leveraging digital marketing, events, and partnerships.
  • Utilize CRM tools, sales automation platforms, and data analytics to track performance and improve customer engagement.
  • Create a seamless, high-touch experience for business owners navigating insurance options, ensuring maximum client retention.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a team of insurance professionals, empowering them to execute at a high level.
  • Ensure that all policies and processes adhere to state and federal insurance laws while mitigating risks.
  • Represent our brand at industry conferences, networking events, and trade shows to drive brand recognition and lead generation.
  • Develop pricing strategies, cost control measures, and growth forecasts to drive long-term profitability.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong background in business health insurance, wholesale insurance, and benefits programs.
  • Proven ability to build and scale an insurance business from the ground up.
  • Experience in growing revenue, developing partnerships, and expanding market share.
  • Ability to close high-value deals, negotiate competitive insurance rates, and drive client acquisition.
  • Deep understanding of Certificates of Insurance (COIs), regulatory requirements, and business risk mitigation.
  • Skilled in policy administration, claims processing, underwriting coordination, and process automation.
  • Ability to leverage CRM tools, financial modeling, and analytics to optimize performance.
  • Strong focus on delivering high-value experiences, improving retention, and enhancing satisfaction.
  • Experience managing pricing structures, cost analysis, and revenue projections.
  • Ability to recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing insurance sales and operations team.
  • Experience in positioning and promoting insurance programs across digital and traditional media.
  • In-depth understanding of insurance regulations, E&O requirements, and liability coverage.
  • Knowledge of sales automation tools, policy management systems, and AI-driven insurance solutions.
  • Ability to analyze industry trends, identify gaps, and develop unique value propositions.
  • Comfortable presenting at events, trade shows, and networking forums to drive awareness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in the insurance industry, with a strong focus on business health insurance, benefits, and risk management.
  • Proven experience building, scaling, and leading an insurance business or division.
  • Deep expertise in insurance product development, underwriting, and claims management.
  • Experience with wholesale insurance, reseller programs, or benefits distribution models.
  • Strong track record in revenue growth, strategic partnerships, and sales leadership.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to travel (up to 50%) for client meetings, industry conferences, and partner engagements.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment while managing multiple priorities.
