Job Overview – Staff Accountant:

Step into a key role as a Staff Accountant with our client in Newark, DE. This opportunity is ideal for an early-career professional looking to expand their expertise in financial reporting, compliance, and process optimization. In this role, you'll contribute to month-end close activities, financial statement preparation, account reconciliation, and SOX compliance while collaborating with finance teams and auditors.

Compensation: $70,000 – $75,000/year + bonus

Location: Newark, DE

Schedule: Monday to Friday (Hybrid)

Responsibilities as the Staff Accountant:

  • Financial Reporting & Compliance: Record financial transactions and ensure GAAP, FASB, and SOX compliance.
  • Month-End Close & Analysis: Assist with monthly close processes, variance analysis, and accurate financial reporting.
  • Account Reconciliation: Prepare and review reconciliations while ensuring SOX compliance.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist with financial reporting and regulatory filings in accordance with industry standards and compliance requirements.
  • FP&A Collaboration: Work with FP&A teams on budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Audit & Process Improvement: Support audits and identify opportunities to enhance accounting processes.

Qualifications for the Staff Accountant:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required (MBA preferred).
  • Certification: CPA preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years in Big 4, Tier 2, regional public, or corporate accounting with expertise in financial reporting, bank reconciliation, and compliance.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of GAAP, FASB, and SOX compliance, with experience in account reconciliations and financial reporting software.
  • Skills & Attributes: Detail-oriented with strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, plus excellent collaboration, leadership, and communication abilities.
  • Industry Knowledge: Exposure to regulatory or utility reporting, SEC compliance, or the broader energy sector is preferred.
  • Technology & Software: Proficiency in ERP systems, financial reporting tools, and advanced Excel functions.
